Domestic violence: EU model project "GUIDE4YOU"

In November 2019, the city of Heidelberg launched a model project called "GUIDE4YOU". The project is financially supported by the European Union. The aim is to make it easier for women affected by domestic violence to access help after an assault.

The women are partly accompanied through the process. So-called "guides" are responsible for this. Since the beginning of July 2020 two women have been working as "guides". One of them is a trained trauma pedagogue and the other is a psychologist. They come into play when the person concerned reports to certain contact points of the project - this can be the violence outpatient clinic, the general psychiatric ward, the intervention centre for women and children or the police. These guides serve as personal contacts and accompany the women concerned to the help points they need. Through personal contact, inhibition thresholds and fears can be reduced among those affected.

An online questionnaire has been available since March. It is available in 8 languages: German, English, Arabic, French, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Romanian. The online questionnaire serves to gain insight into the individual needs and interests of women. The aim is to improve counselling structures and assistance. You are very welcome to fill in the questionnaire to help yourself and other women. Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous. Any woman who has had experience of physical and/or sexual violence can take part in the survey.

In Germany every fourth woman between 16 and 85 years of age experiences physical or sexual violence within a relationship at least once in her life. Every second to third day a woman dies as a result of the violence. The number of unreported cases seems to be even higher. For decades the city of Heidelberg has been taking action against violence against women in public and private spaces. Every year the city of Heidelberg spends more than 750.000€ on prevention measures and helping projects. These include the women's night taxi and numerous initiatives.

But men also have experiences with violence. Below you will find contacts where you can find help if you experience violence or have problems with violence.

GUIDE4YOU cooperates with the Violence Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital in Heidelberg and with the Faculty of Applied Psychology of the SRH University Heidelberg. The SRH University of Applied Psychology Heidelberg evaluates the data from the questionnaire. In addition, the Clinic for General Psychiatry of the University Hospital Heidelberg, the Intervention Centre for Women and the police are among the cooperation partners.
